Our first time at Staplins Farm, and I hope it won’t be the last. It was a perfect set up with the parking/camping field separate from the running ground. The weather was perfect, sunny but not too hot. The condition of the ground couldn’t have been better, the field if called 10 acres but is actually 13, and offers a large flat space which gave great scope for interesting courses, which the field team made great use of with a super first round layout, of 700yrds incorporating long straights to test speed and stamina.
With10 trials dogs and 66 dogs on the card making 11 stakes it was another action-packed day. The standout run of the first round (actually of the day) was an unjudged Double Bye with Laguna Lia’s
Lara and Harerunner Hombre Estrella. The pair weren’t due to meet, and will
likely not do so again, but what a treat it was to watch them together. Our judge of the day Mike Florek who said he was glad not to be asked to make a call on that one as there was nothing between
them in the whole run.
There were a couple of other notable pairings, both in the Staverton takes for Bitches up to 19.75”, with Selinko Honeysuckle with Maccus Cirilla of Cintra and Pagarni’s Princess Elsa with Keep A Knocking of Ohoka. MCoC and PPE were the ones to go through and had equally close second round run.
We had several fresh faces dawning the competitive field this month after being successfully cleared over the previous meetings such as Ryemeadows Enfys, Kenzduo Yokosoko and Ryemeadows Zikomo who now bring the Standard Bitch group up to 24 strong for the season
Within the Deerhurst Walton Stake it seen two housemates Harerunner Hasta La Vista (Albin) and Silverhare Festive Snowelf (Morris) pairing in the first round and Mike our judge made comment at halftime that Morris has several opportunities for a go- bye but was being a very polite competitor due to there at home relationship. This led to another brotherly close final within this stake with the two Harerunner brothers, Hasta La Vista and Hombre Estrella! Albin just clinched the win and highlighted that is why he is sitting top of the Standard Dog group for the season with only one more meeting to go!
Within the veterans’ stakes both Pilgrimsway siblings dominated their stakes and ran beautifully each time!
Silverhare Fortis Secret, Winterfellin Dashin Comet avec Elstoto and Cheydanhar Sooleawa at Coppermow were not entered into competition but their own field experience was utlised to successfully clear more Standard height whippets who will be hopefully making their debuts this season.
We only have one more meeting in the diary before our final’s day season grand finale!
